Coaching Support

This section contains papers on specific subjects across the total rugby spectrum·- from juniors to seniors, from psychological to physical, from theoretical to practical. Similar papers, specifically relating to sessions in the manual, have been included as additional information in those sections. Others, included here, will be of value to all ambitious coaches and players. They are available in blocks, as described, and are both relevant and thought-provoking.

Advice to Players

coaching-support-advice-to-players All players want to improve and play better.

The advice we give them should relate to all aspects of the game and enable them to become better players.

In this section we look at positional requirements both mental and physical. Goal setting, building momentum and how to handle pressure.

Conditioned Games

coaching-support-conditioned-games The use of conditioned games will enable the coach to measure both the individual and the teams understanding of how to play the game.

Players enjoy the challenge of conditioned games and will benefit enormously from "beating the challenge the coach sets."

All conditioned games should have a measurable outcome and overload games, with more attackers than defenders are particularly effective.

SAQ® Speed, Agility & Quickness

This section covers many aspects of SAQ training - Speed, Agility, Quickness. SAQ, in my experience, is the most effective tool available for vast improvements in players' movement techniques. There is something here for all players from mini and junior to international level. Use it and you won't be disappointed!

Mini & Junior

coaching-support-mini-junior What we teach young players will stay with them for their entire playing career.

It is important to differentiate between "teaching and coaching".

Young players develop at different rates. The common denominator is good technique. Always insist on good technique......In years to come your players will thank you for it!

Psychological Skills

coaching-support-psychological-skills Both players and coaches will need psychological skills . They are the "mental tools" of the game.

Equipping players with an understanding of how to prepare themselves mentally so they can produce good performances is important for all players at all levels.

The difference in performance at elite level may be as a result of a strong mental approach.
